Round of 16: Germany 2 Sweden 0

Germany played a very impressive first 20 minutes of this game... complete domination, one might say... Argentina looked weak during a 2:1 ugly win against Mexico... should make for a very interesting quarterfinal on Friday, 30 June 2006.

Steffi and Jeff went to the Allianz Arena in Munich with friend and visitor, Greg Drozda. After benefiting from Greg's ticket connections, we tried our best to provide comfortable accomodations (and several beers) for Greg and his travel buddy Pete.

Needless to say, ze Germans were partying in the streets of Munich until the wee hours of the morning.

US jersey

After mom bought Anna a shirt for the german games, Dad had to do the same for the US games, but OF COURSE he got her the complete outfit. Problem: smallest sice was 3-4 years. Who cares? She got it anyway!

How can they sleep like that?

Annas favourite food: Strawberries!

FIFA 2006 World Cup (in Germany) - Opening Day

Anna had a busy day, but successfully mastered
1.) standing (for when the Germans sing 'steh auf wann Ihr Deutsche seid')
2.) background singing (for #1 and all other chants/songs/etc)
3.) making her jersey look 'worn'

Thanks to our friend, Greg Drozda, Steffi and Jeff attended the opening ceremonies and opening game at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Anna stayed at home with her friend Louisa and watched the game on television. The Germans won, but it was a lot closer (4-2) than it should have been. Costa Rica (thanks to their only world class player, Wanchope, and the South American referees) scored 2 goals. Both goals appeared to be offside from my seat. The second was definitely offsides if you review the replay, but the referee (from Argentina) as well as the linesmen (both from Chile) allowed the goals to stand.
